The Ponsonby Intermediate School community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Principal Nick Wilson, who reportedly passed away following a sudden medical event.
Nick Wilson was widely respected as an educator, mentor, and leader who dedicated many years to supporting and inspiring students. Before becoming principal, he was known as an outstanding P.E. teacher whose positive energy, encouragement, and commitment left a lasting impression on countless young people.
Students, past and present, remember Mr. Wilson as someone who genuinely cared about the well-being and growth of every child. His leadership, kindness, and passion for education helped shape the culture and spirit of the school community.
Tributes have continued to pour in from former students, parents, staff members, and friends, all reflecting on the impact he had both inside and outside the classroom. Many have expressed prayers and condolences for his family and the wider Ponsonby Intermediate whānau during this incredibly difficult time.
In response to the tragedy, the school announced that it would remain closed on Monday, May 18, as the community comes together to grieve and support one another.
Nick Wilson’s passing leaves a tremendous void within the school and the broader Auckland community. His dedication to students, education, and leadership will long be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Nick Wilson will be forever respected, deeply missed, and always remembered.
