It is with deep sadness that the legal community mourns the unexpected passing of Judge Andre Rudolph of Denver, one of Denver County Court’s longest-serving judges. Rudolph died on Friday at the age of 59, according to court officials.

Judge Rudolph was widely respected for his decades of service, leadership, and commitment to justice. Appointed in 2005 by then-Mayor John Hickenlooper, he was among the youngest judges in Colorado at the time, beginning a judicial career that would leave a lasting impact on the Denver legal community.
Born and raised in Cheyenne, Rudolph earned his undergraduate degree from University of Wyoming before obtaining his law degree from Creighton University. He began his legal career in Colorado in 1993 as a deputy state public defender, dedicating himself early on to public service and advocacy.
Before becoming a county judge, Rudolph served as a magistrate in Denver District Court and later in the 17th Judicial District. Throughout his career, he earned admiration for the fairness, humanity, and integrity he brought to the bench.
Denver County Presiding Judge Kerri Lombardi reflected on Rudolph’s life and legacy, describing him as “one of the most vibrant, larger-than-life people” she had ever known. She praised his generosity, unmistakable presence, and unwavering dedication to justice carried out with “integrity, fairness, and deep humanity.”
